A number of people have asked me what the difference is between an essay and an article.
Essays usually inject more of the author's opinions and emotions. Articles are more fact based and offer only generic or "public" opinions. Here's a website that shows essay writing step-by-step. It has printouts and lots of good essay-related resources:

I prefer essays. They are brief, precise, and you can articulate what you want to express without being bound by length.
