About NJCWG

A place where writers come together to encourage each other on their journey to publication, learning and developing their skills along the way.

Our purpose:

- Sharpen skills through writing exercises and guest presentations.
- Keep ourselves accountable by sharing our goals and submitting our work for critique.

NJCWG meets on the first Saturday (usually) of each month from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm: High Mountain Church (cafe) 681 High Mountain Rd. No. Haledon, NJ .
And be sure to "LIKE" our facebook page for encouragement, humor, writing opportunities, and tips on both the craft and business of writing.

Critique Guidelines

In the second half of most monthly meetings, we break into small critique groups. You can be part of a critique group even if you don't bring work to be critiqued.

If you bring a piece for critique, remember these guidelines:
-Bring no more than two pages, double spaced with your name on each page.
-Bring TEN copies of your piece.
-It should be work you have already edited.
-If you have one, share the name of a prospective publisher, periodical, or contest.

When critiquing:
-Mark with blue or red pen and initial.
-Verbal commentary will be limited to time constraints.

Elements of a critique:
- Do not change to how YOU would write it.
- Valuable critique to share:
*Grammatical correction
*Trite phrases/cliche/lackluster vocabulary
*Confusion/Lack of clarity

Critique is only one person's opinion - YOU are the author.
