2) Does this include His call to write?
3) If you feel the call to write, do you write every day?
4) Do you write what, when and how He instructs you to write?
5) Are you only flirting with writing, or are you ready for a serious commitment?
We will discuss these topics and more at the first meeting of the NJCWG in 2009 on Saturday, January 3. Don't forget to bring your critques.

Thanksgiving Note
Here are a few writing prompts for the Holiday weekend:
1) Write a letter to God thanking Him for one specific blessing you received this past year.
2) Write a letter to one person who influenced you for the better - tell them what they did for you and why you are a better person for it.
3) Write a letter to one person forgiving them for a past grievance.
4) Write a letter to one person asking for forgiveness - for something you've done or said that may have offended them.
5) Write out five blessings in you life - expand each to include who God used to bring that blessing about.
- Please note that there will be NO December meeting of the NJCWG. I apologize for this, but it could not be helped (read previous blog-note).
- FYI - the Ringwood Library is sponsoring a new critique group - the second session begins Thursday evening, Dec 6 at 7:00 p.m.

Dec Cancelation... and more
I'm sorry to say that I have to cancel the December meeting of the NJCWG. Tim, my son, is hosting a Sr. High youth retreat that weekend. The mother of one of his primary speakers has been very ill (a tumor on her heart). This speaker now won't be able to make the retreat and Tim needs me to step in on the afternoon of Sat, Dec 6 to help him.
I know you all look forward to our meeting but we will meet again on Saturday January 3, 2009.
On a happier note, if you want to see some of Tim & Amanda's wedding photos (and a whole bunch of others), you can go to the DuMont family blog at: http://www.dumontfamily.blogspot.com/
Blessings,
Louise

SEPTEMBER NJCWG MEETING CANCELED
So sorry, but I think we are going to cancel our NJCWG meeting for tomorrow 9/6/08. With Hurricane Hanna coming in (the worst to hit late tomorrow afternoon) I think it would be best to just wait one more month before we meet.

BEWARE ....
I am both embarased and distressed to tell you all that my website has been taken over by a porn group. Please do NOT go to www. louisedumont .com
My sincerest apologies if any of you recently tried to go to my website. My husband is trying his best to take back what was mine but they are asking a large sum of money to turn over the site name.
On a much happier note, my son's wedding was WONDERFUL !!! They should be returning from their honeymoon tonight.
Our next meeting will NOT be in August -- we are taking a summer break and will return to our regular meetings in September.
Hope to see you all there. Have a most blessed summer and KEEP WRITING!!!

No July & Aug Meetings
Wishing a Happy Summer Time to all our NJCWG Members!
PICNIC
Our June NJCWG picnic was a wonderful success. The weather was hot but gorgeous right up to the moment that I climbed back into my car. Then the heaven's opened up with a torrent of rain. God just wanted to let me know once again how good He was to allow us that beautiful afternoon.
REMINDER
There will be no NJCWG meetings for July & August. My son's wedding, vacations and numerous other summer activities have led me to believe that we need to take this break. We will resume our meetings on their regular schedule on September 6, 2008.
DO CHECK THE BLOG REGULARLY THIS SUMMER.
Because we suspended meeting for July & August, I will share writing opportunites, conference information, and other writing related topics on the blog during that time. I also have some pictures that Marilyn took at the picnic and I'll post them as soon as I get the chance - probably after the July 4th holiday.
Blessing to you all. Have a safe and happy summer. And KEEP WRITING!!!

Next Meeting of the NJCWG
Well, I broke my foot about a week ago. It has three hairline fractures. The good news is that it is my left foot (so I can still drive) and there isn't any real pain.
If you know anything at all about the facilitator of the NJCWG, you know that keeping me in one place is going to be tough a best -- more likely impossible (she said smiling through gritted teeth). I have an "elastic" bandage over my foot and a walking boot over that (see above picture) -- so YES, we are meeting for our monthly writer's group on March 1, 2008.
Pray for me regarding my attitude. This could have been a LOT worse, but I find myself getting grumpy because I can't go places as fast, as far, or as often as I'd like. I really don't WANT to be crabby -- just seems this is bringing out the worst in me. I remember praying for patience AND for some down-time (God has a sense of humor) . Of course God answered my prayer -- but not exactly the WAY I wanted Him to (the facilitator said this as she delicately hoisted her huge booted leg onto her office desk and adjusted it's velcro straps for some semblance comfort).
Looking forward to our next meeting (grin).

South Florida-based Publishing House Launches
Quarterly Christian Literary Journal
(Hollywood, FL) Celebrating the prominence of Christian literature in the current literary marketplace, Pecan Tree Publishing has announced plans for the first edition of a quarterly Christian literary journal. Parables Magazine will feature short Christian fiction from authors around the world. Co-publisher/Creative Director Craig Stafford says, “Parables is designed to offer quality stories with positive themes and images, that will evangelize as well as enrich the lives of spiritual people.”
Content of the magazine will also include original artwork from Christian artists, devotionals and words of inspiration from Parables‘ editorial staff including authors E. Claudette Freeman, Carol Watson and Stafford. The first issue of Parables Magazine is scheduled for release in March 2008. Pecan Tree Publishing is now accepting story and art submissions for the premier issue and forthcoming issues. Stories submitted must be between 2500 and 5000 words, must be the author’s original work and a letter stating ownerships must be included and must espouse Christian beliefs and doctrines. The genre is Christian fiction, therefore personal testimonies not written in that format, should not be submitted. Work may be of a suspense, romantic, urban or other fiction nature. Art submissions must show positive, uplifting imagery and celebrate Christian beliefs and doctrines. Work must be the artist’s original work and a letter verifying ownership must be included.
Stafford says, “we believe there is a bounty of good Christian writers out there who are looking for a reliable, quality and professional platform to get exposure. Parables Magazine is that platform and Pecan Tree Publishing is glad that God chose us to present it.”Art and story submissions for the premier issue must be received by January 28, 2008. All submissions may be made via email to info@pecantreepress.com or may be mailed to: PARABLES SUBMISSIONS, PO BOX 470697, Miami, Fl 33247. For submission questions or advertising inquiries, Parables Magazine may be reached at 877-207-2442.

Christian Market Guide Order
Sally Stuart's 2008 Christian Market Guide hits the books shelves in January. If you are a Christian writer you really MUST have a copy of this book AND it now with a CD-ROM!
This book contains complete information on book publishers, periodicals, specialty and foreign markets, newspapers, writing contests, editorial services, conferences, literary agents, and more. 640 pages, softcover with CD-ROM. Publisher - Waterbrook.
"An essential reference for anyone seeking to be published in the Christian community,"---Midwest Book Review.
A Note From Louise: Those of you who have been members of the NJCWG for a while know that I have a standing order with Sally (Stewart) for a dozen Christian Market Guides each year. Becuase my standing order was placed many years ago, I get an unbelieveable price. I sell these books to members of our group for a mere $21.00. That covers the cost of the book and bulk shipping. Please note that I do not make any money on these books. I pay for the dozen books and try to sell them at cost so that any new writer will have the wonderful market information that this book supplies.
The retail price of the 2008 Christian Market Guide is $34.99 (you can probably get a copy online for about $26.00 but then you'd still have to pay for shipping. That means that buying this book from me would save you around $10.00.
Since our group is small, I'm a little concerned that I will once again end up with copies that I must pay for but can't sell. If you are interested in obtaining a copy of this book please let me know as soon as possible. If you have writing friends who want a copy, please feel free to ask for more than one copy. If I don't get enough people to request copies, I'm going to have to cancel my standing order. Unforntunately, I can no longer afford to pay for the books only to donate them to various libraries. Agian, let me know as soon as possible if you would like a copy.

Fiction
Short story, romance, and mainstream of 1,100 words and mini-mysteries of 1,000 words. "Each of our stories has a light romantic theme and can be written from either a masculine or feminine point of view. Women characters may be single, married, or divorced. Plots must be fast moving with vivid dialogue and action. The problems and dilemmas inherent in them should be contemporary and realistic, handled with warmth and feeling. The stories must have a positive resolution." Specify "Fiction" on envelope. Always enclose SASE. Responds in 4 months. No phone or fax queries. Pays $1,000 for romances on acceptance for North American serial rights for 6 months. "The 1,000 word mini-mysteries may feature either a `whodunnit' or `howdunnit' theme. The mystery may revolve around anything from a theft to murder. However, we are not interested in sordid or grotesque crimes. Emphasis should be on intricacies of plot rather than gratuitous violence. The story must include a resolution that clearly states the villain is getting his or her come-uppance." Submit complete mss. Specify "Mini-Mystery" on envelope. Enclose SASE. No phone queries.

NJCWG Quarterly Workshop
This Saturday, June 2, 2007 the North Jersey Christian Writers Group will host one of its quarterly "hands on" workshops. This is not something you want to miss!
I will have twenty four different photographs -- each presenting an unlimited number of stories. The first members to arrive at our workshop will get first choice of the photos. After choosing your photo you will be asked to create a story using a specific set of instructions. You will have 30-45 minutes to muse, outline and write. We'll break for refreshments (my treat), then come back to review what you wrote. After that, you will be given the choice to do a rewrite or to choose a second picture.

New Novel - Special Price
Joe Cellis, an excellent author and someone I've encouraged along his writing path, recently sent me an email asking that I post this message. Please do check out his work. You won't be sorry.
Louise
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Greetings friends,
Since the debut of my first novel, The Healing Place, in April of 2001, many of you have been asking when will my next novel be published. That day has arrived. Murder at Whalehead is now available.
I am putting out a special lower-priced edition ($13.79) for family, friends, fans, and fundraisers before the novel is marketed nationwide. This summer I will be meeting with representatives from Outer Banks Press. If I work out a deal with them, the novel will be re-priced—probably around $18.95. Outer Banks Press will become the distributor along with the major online bookstores (Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Books-a-Million, etc.).
For now, Murder at Whalehead is only available through www.lulu.com at this price.
Here is the link if you would like to get one: http://www.lulu.com/content/811654
Here are some quotes about the novel:
“An atmospheric and thoroughly engrossing mystery of people and place, MURDER AT WHALEHEAD will absorb the reader from its first tantalizing page to its last satisfying conclusion. It’s a true page-turner, filled with fully realized characters who understand both faith and doubt.” Michele Rubin, senior agent at Writers House (one of New York’s top literary agencies)
“Joe Ellis weaves engaging characters, suspense, and triumph of spirit together in a great read.” Nancy Haddock, novelist at Berkley Books.
“I’ve read 37 novels so far this year. MURDER AT WHALEHEAD is at the top of the list. I loved it.” Gretchen Snodgrass, English teacher and avid reader.
I am also making signed copies of Murder at Whalehead available for fundraising purposes. All you have to do is make a list of people in your organization, church, neighborhood, etc. who are interested in a signed copy of the novel. Let me know how many books you need. I’ll deliver the books to you. The suggested donation per book is $15. You keep $5 per book and send me the rest to cover my costs. Twenty books= $100 dollars for your cause. Email me at joecellis@comcast.net for more information or call me (Joe Ellis) at 1-740-633-0423.
Blessings,
Joe C. Ellis
The Publicity Hound
From the Publicity Hound, Joan Stewart
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you've written a book, or you're thinking of writing one, or you're an expert who wants to turn a head full of knowledge into a career, don't miss the opportunities that 99 percent of all authors and experts miss.
These mistakes will keep your book off the best-seller list and severely limit your ability to turn all that knowledge into multiple revenue streams.
Steve Harrison, who has worked with thousands of authors and experts over the years, is presenting a complimentary teleseminar on Thursday, May 3. He'll talk about 12 mistakes authors make, and the 22 super-lucrative income streams which most authors and experts overlook -- but are surprisingly easy to implement (and certainly MUCH easier to produce than writing another book).
Choose from two times slots: 2 p.m. Eastern (11:00 am Pacific) or at 7 p.m. Eastern (4 p.m. Pacific). Because I work with authors, too, I'll be on the afternoon call soaking it all in.
Want to join me, or listen during the evening? Register at http://snipurl.com/QuantumLeapCall3
P.S. Steve will NOT record the calls, so this is your only chance to listen.

The second-smartest thing I did in the last five years was to invent that pesky "Snowflake method" for designing and writing a novel. No doubt about it -- the Snowflake has helped me write better and faster, and that's been worth a lot of money to me.
Want to know what's the SMARTEST thing I did in the last five years? That's easy: Posting the Snowflake method on my web site for free.
I've just posted an entry on my Advanced Fiction Writing Blog to explain why:
